Welcome to Chilvers Coton Scout Group. We hope that you and your child will enjoy your adventures with us.
The information found on this website is provided to help the scouts and there parents / guardians answer any questions that they may have and also provide information as to events and activites taking place
http://www.cotonscouts.org.uk/.
On joining each child will receive an information pack. In this pack you will find: a record card, which we need you to fill in and return to us, taking particular note to emergency contact numbers, as this is often overlooked and email address as this is by far the most convenient way for us to contact our many members with new and often very exciting opportunities; a fund raising leaflet and a paper copy of this page.

Uniform.
Chilvers Coton Scout Group operates an informal approach to uniforms, but does request that the Beaver, Cub, Scout or Leader, must be wearing the shirt or sweatshirt and necker on all activities unless specifically instructed not to. For more information about the uniforms please view our uniform page.
- Beavers wear a turquoise sweatshirt and the group scarlet necker with either a plastic maroon or special occasion woggle.
- Cubs wear a dark green sweatshirt and the scarlet group necker with a plastic coloured, appropriate to there six, or special occasion woggle .
- Scouts wear a dark green shirt and the scarlet group necker with a brown leather or special occasion woggle .
All uniforms must be worn with smart trousers (School type) or the optional Navy Scout trousers.
For practiucal advice about the scout uniform, how to roll a necker, where badges go visit our uniform page.
The optional, but highly recommended items include a group red T-shirt and navy combat trousers. is also available as an optional summer uniform
These uniforms are available from

- School Wear Centre (Formerly Jeanstation) – Abbey Street Nuneaton.

Camping & Outdoor Activities
Camping and outdoor activities are a fundamental part of the scouting programme and often require you child you have some clothing or equipment that you may not normally have. A formal kit list will be provided before every camp and any exceptional activities that require special clothing.
As a general rule you child will need, throughout his time in at Chilvers Coton Scout Group, the following: A sleeping bag (the warmer the better), Roll mat (foam mat to sleep on.), A single large rucksack or sports bag (suitcases are not easy to carry across fields), Plastic plate, bowl & mug & basic cutlery (not mum’s best silver!), hiking boots or similar (very important when in scouts), Full waterproof clothing – jacket & trousers, & a torch.
These are not all needed on day one and become more important when in cubs or scouts. We can help with providing some of the equipment but forewarned is forearmed as they say!
Ways You Can help?
Don’t get scared…. We don’t expect that every parent has the time or inclination to become scout leaders although that is a possibility. You can help in a variety of ways including:
- Become a member of our executive committee.
- Assistance with fundraising. (See below)
- Participating in group social events.
- Helping to run an evening using your skills or vocation.
- Lending a hand in DIY of the building and scouting equipment
Fundraising.
Throughout the year the group organises many activities to raise funds for special activities such as camps or trips, or simply to fill gaps in the groups coffers. Obviously with our leaders spending an awful lot of time organising programme activities for your youngsters it is often a bit of a strain to organise the necessary fundraising events.
How you can easily help:
- Assist with the organising or running of various events
- A large number of companies particularly multinationals provide employee matched-time or matched-funding, whereby the companies make financial donations to a charitable group in which the parents are linked. Please find out whether your company would be able to support our scout group.
- http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ccsg/ – Help raise funds for the group simply by shopping online with the majority of the high street and internet retailers. So by shopping for CDs, clothes, holidays, insurance you can raise much needed funds for the scout group.
- http://ccsg.easysearch.org.uk/ - By switching you internet search engine at home or work to Easysearch, each search you make will raise about a penny for the scout group. imagine how this can mount up.
- ScoutsAppeal – Recycle your old mobile phones or printer cartridges to raise funds for the group. Ask you leader for a free post envelope.
Leaders.
All of the leaders involved in scouting or any parents that volunteer to help have been vetted by the scout association and have undergone an enhanced CRB check.
Also we thought it would be useful to give you the contact details for the leaders of the various sections in case of any questions.
