Child Protection

Safeguarding the welfare of our youth members
“Children have the right to protection from all forms of violence (physical or mental). They must be kept safe from harm and they must be given proper care by those looking after them.”
[The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 19]
The number one priority for Chilvers Coton Scout Group is the welfare of its members and every effort is taken to ensure that all activities are fully assessed before they are offered to our members
The Scout Association takes seriously its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people in its care.
The Scout Association is committed to:
- taking into account in all its considerations and activities the interests and well-being of young people.
- respecting the rights, wishes and feelings of the young people with whom it is working
- taking all reasonable practicable steps to protect them from physical, sexual and emotional harm
- promoting the welfare of young people within a relationship of trust
The Scout Association believes that safeguarding and protecting the welfare of all the young people we work with is the responsibility of everyone. It is therefore imperiative that all adults involved in the delivery of Scouting Activities are, where possible, Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked. Where this is not possible, for example; where an activity requires instructor expertise outside of the Association; then it is the Leader responsible for the activity to ensure that none of the members are placed into a position of one to one interaction beyond the view of the leaders.
All Adult Members of Chilvers Coton Scout Group have undergone a full enhanced CRB check.
The Association’s ‘Young People First’ code of good practice is published in the form of a pocket size yellow card that all adults are asked to keep with them. This is also displayed on the main notice board within "the cube". This contains information about how to report concerns or allegations of abuse and also a code of behaviour that all adults are required to follow.
Any issues affecting your child please talk to the section leader or Group Scout Leader.
